The snowbirds have flown home from Florida. And lots of them left their rental cars behind, LOAN MONEY OAKLAND QUICK cars that need to move from Florida to somewhere else.

That's a mere a day (plus the usual annoying surcharges). Combine that with an open-jaw flight (into one city, out of another) and you have the makings of a terrific summer travel adventure.
My adventure would begin in oh-so-international Miami. I'd want to spend at least one night in a groovy Art Deco hotel on South Beach. And it's off-season there now, so the rates are down. And I'd definitely want to sip at least a couple of cups of thick Cuban coffee at one of the outdoor cafes in trendy Lincoln Road Mall.
Then I'd point the car north and head up one of the most eclectic stretches of road in America, Highway A1A. Somewhere between Miami and Fort Lauderdale is my favorite moment on this part of the drive, a stretch of '50s-themed motels adorned with tiki gods, concrete camels and miniature pyramids.
But alas, these classic icons are quickly being replaced with condos. My longtime favorite, The Blue Mist, had already disappeared when I last made this drive. It featured two gigantic mythic sirens of the sea with long wavy hair holding up the entry canopy. Inside, a gigantic "sputnik" chandelier dominated the lobby Anybody remember those?
So as I pass I'll savor what remains of this blast from the past while I can. Then it's on to Ft. Lauderdale, where I'll cut over to the beach road to admire the inline skaters, each outfitted in a little bit of spandex and a whole lot of attitude, zooming past the rows of palms.
When I get to Palm Beach I'll cut inland again for a quick trip through the maze of impossibly high hedges that screen the rich and famous from us common Loan money oakland quick folk in this ritzy beachside community.
Then I press on to historic St. Augustine, perhaps to spend the night.
Genteel Savannah and Charleston are just a few hours more when the trek resumes. Then inland again to pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway, maybe a night or two in Asheville.
A day spent meandering through Virginia brings me to my final destination, one of the several designated drop-off locations in and around Washington, D.C. A couple of days touring the Smithsonian and maybe the new Spy Museum, and back home.
